Environmental Policies
Aetna Building Maintenance has been a leader in good stewardship of the environment. In providing both our janitorial and facilities management services, we seek to promote a healthy and safe environment for our clients, our employees and the larger community. Aetna believes that sustainability cannot be achieved by any single measure, but rather, requires a more holistic approach. This guiding philosophy is the basis of Aetna’s Sustainable Green Cleaning Program as well as other initiatives in this area.
Our Sustainable Green Cleaning Programs represent the latest in innovative services from Aetna, uniting certified chemicals, tools, processes, training, service and support. Where desired, Aetna’s Sustainable Green Cleaning Program can help those interested in pursuing LEED® certification. In fact, an effective Sustainable Green Cleaning Program can contribute 25 percent of the points necessary for basic certification. In comparison with other efforts, the points available through implementation of a Sustainable Green Cleaning Program provide the cheapest cost-per-point.
In addition to our cleaning programs, Aetna’s facilities maintenance team works with clients to find more sustainable solutions through processes such as Energy Management. Aetna provides expert guidance as clients seek opportunities to use more green products and practices in their maintenance efforts.

Community Garden
Aetna Building Maintenance employees are excited about their newest community initiative, a Community Garden. Utilizing an empty lot near their Columbus, Ohio headquarters, Aetna employees are hard at work making preparations for the upcoming plantings, and eventual harvest with the bounty to benefit the surrounding neighborhood as well as the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
Marshall University Sustainability Program
Aetna Building Maintenance is proud to provide significant support for the Marshall University Sustainability Program. As part of the initiative, Aetna is funding a yearlong series concerning green and energy efficient efforts. The educational lecture series will include speakers from Aetna’s leadership team.
Topics to be discussed include: commercial energy audits, waste reduction efforts, choosing local/regional foods and products, permeable paving products and green cleaning.
